After working for Woolley & Co for over 4 years, our senior partner, Gary Cousins decided he liked the firm so much that he bought the company - well, the business side, and formed Cousins Business Law, leaving Woolley & Co to specialise in family law. Andrew Woolley remains on board at Cousins Business Law in a senior management role.

Our lawyers usually work from a home-office base and are fully supported by the latest in IT, telecommunications and web-enabled software, as well as by first-class marketing and finance departments. Regular team and client meetings, training and support on marketing and client care skills, coupled with networking activity, provide the interaction of an office environment but without the interruptions.

As Gary says, “I used to be a partner in a very highly-regarded commercial law firm and I remember sitting in my office one day, looking at my computer and telephone, and realising that what I really needed to do the best job I could for my clients was state of the art IT and telecommunications systems, good resources, and great back-office support. The plush offices didn’t help me do my job any better and ultimately it was the clients who had to pay for them, and the office politics were a constant distraction and used to get me down.”

General Vacancies

We are on the lookout for senior solicitors with at least 5 years PQE to strengthen the team by providing specialist advice to a range of SME and family-owned business clients. We are particularly looking for commercial lawyers, litigation lawyers or others with a niche practice area.

You MUST be experienced in business development and be able to demonstrate your ability to generate work through existing contacts, referrals and ongoing marketing activity. An existing following is essential as a base from which to build up a full caseload with our marketing training and support.

Senior Commercial Solicitor

Although flexible, the work will essentially include contract drafting (for on and off-line businesses), data protection and IP advice, developing software licenses and agreements, joint venture agreements and other general trading issues. Experience of company law, business structures and governance would be advantageous.

With technical ability that is beyond reproach, you will have a real understanding of SME businesses and sole traders and you must possess strong client development and networking skills. You will be a confident, self-motivated lawyer with excellent IT skills who enjoys working as part of an integrated team but who thrives in an autonomous environment.
